TORONTO, Sept. 11, 2026 /CNW/ -- Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX: SLF) (NYSE: SLF) today announced a Commitment to Canadian Infrastructure Initiative that will seek to deploy $5 billion over 5 years into investments that support Canada's economic growth and resilience, while delivering long-term returns. The investment capacity reflects Sun Life's role as a long-term institutional investor. As a global asset manager, Sun Life is well positioned to source and mobilize long-term institutional capital in support of Canadian infrastructure.

Through this commitment, Sun Life will direct capital toward opportunities aligned with market needs in support of a stronger, more resilient economy. These investments will help:

  • Build critical infrastructure, including for digital technology, energy, and transportation and logistics.
  • Create the conditions for sustainable economic expansion and long-term prosperity.
  • Generate long-term value.

"Sun Life is proud to be a global asset management and insurance leader. At its core, the commitment we are announcing today underscores our belief that a stronger, more competitive Canada benefits everyone. And as one of the world's largest asset managers, we have an important role to play and we're proud to play it," said Kevin Strain, Sun Life's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Through our long-term investments, and asset management businesses, Sun Life is helping to build the infrastructure, businesses and communities that will support prosperity at home and abroad for generations to come."

As part of the commitment, Sun Life intends to deploy $1.5 billion over 5 years into Canadian infrastructure equity that will be overseen by SLC Management, Sun Life's global institutional alternatives asset manager, and originated, executed and managed by InfraRed Capital Partners, SLC Management's infrastructure investment manager. This part of the commitment relies on amendments to the Insurance Companies Act which would allow insurers to make equity investments in infrastructure.

"From energy and digital transformation to urbanization and economic development, the world's most important structural shifts happening around the globe require significant, patient capital. Infrastructure is uniquely positioned to deliver both long-term returns and positive societal impact, providing investors with predictable, long-term cash flows while financing assets that support communities, strengthen economies, and support resilience," said Tom Murphy, President of Sun Life Asset Management.
