The heart-warming novel “Ian and Anton” by Robert Beckstedt will be displayed by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at two-upcoming book events this April in California: the Los Angeles Book Confab on April 23-24, 2025, at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City in Universal City, and the 2025 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (LATFOB) on April 26-27, 2025, at the University of Southern California (USC) campus in Los Angeles.ReadersMagnet is pumped to be holding the Los Angeles Book Confab, which serves as a prelude for the 30th Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The Book Confab is designed to provide passionate authors with the opportunity to share their brilliance with the world through their written work. Aside from that, the Los Angeles Book Confab is a great opportunity for authors to connect with readers and their fellow authors.
On the other hand, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is the largest book festival in the country, attracting a crowd of 150,000. The free, two-day event brings together authors and booklovers to explore the world of storytelling through book exhibits, panel discussions, and performances.
“Ian and Anton” takes place in 2004, during one of the most challenging periods in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The story follows Ian Roberts, a world traveler who finds himself drawn to a burgeoning megachurch in North Carolina. As the church embarks on a building campaign, they commit to funding an AIDS hospice in a Black township in South Africa. In a moment of impulsive inspiration, Ian volunteers to travel to Africa, determined to help establish a business that will create jobs and sustain the hospice's operations.
However, Ian's journey is not without its challenges. His philosophy of acceptance and inclusivity is met with resistance from the church's clergy, particularly Pastor Anton Nikosi. As tensions rise, Ian and Anton enter a symbiotic relationship that transcends their differences, teaching their community the profound meanings of love, respect, and understanding in a post-Apartheid environment.
