Christ Community Church Redefines Outreach Through Vocational Mission
OverlandPark, United States - March 9, 2026 / Christ Community Evangelical Free Church /
KANSAS CITY, KS — Christ Community Church announces its comprehensive outreach programs that partner with local schools, community organizations, and global ministries to advance a unique missional approach to faith and work. With five campuses across the Kansas City metro area, the church equips believers to view their workplaces, both paid and unpaid, as primary mission fields.
"At Christ Community, we believe that 100% of our budget is missional," said Senior Pastor Tom Nelson. "We're not just supporting missions; we're equipping our congregants as the scattered church to be on mission each and every day, wherever God has specifically called them. We view both vocational discipleship and vocational mission as our equipping focus."
A Church for Monday
Christ Community has pioneered a paradigm shift from viewing a few as called to "missions" to an all-inclusive missional model where every believer is sent on mission. The church emphasizes that workplaces serve as primary places for worshiping God, being formed spiritually, sharing the Gospel, and loving neighbors. Through work, congregants embody common grace and further the common good.
This approach builds on the foundation of both the Great Commission and the Cultural Mandate, recognizing that faith, work, and economics are woven together in the fabric of faithful gospel ministry. The church has moved from "full-time ministry" language reserved for pastoral work to celebrating all vocations as ministry opportunities.
