  1. Rumbling or popping during heating cycles, which points to sediment accumulation at the base of the tank.
  2. Rust-colored water on the hot side only, suggesting the anode rod has been depleted.
  3. Hot water that runs out faster than it previously did, often linked to a dip tube or heating element issue.
  4. Moisture around the base of the unit, which requires distinguishing a valve leak from a tank leak.
  5. No anode rod inspection within the past three years, particularly in hard-water households.
